Global Media Network
There is a greater requirement for media content than ever before, with the global marketplace blurring the distinction between local, national and international audiences.
At Babcock, we understand the challenge for broadcasters in moving their content around in this environment where quality, reliability, timing and cost are critical.
Babcock’s Global Media Network (GMN) provides a high-performance, integrated service IP network, incorporating seamless satellite content delivery. We fully manage this solution saving you time, effort and cost.
It’s reliable.
Applying broadcast quality standards to an IP world, the GMN does not run over the public Internet, but over VPNs (Virtual Private Networks) on our MPLS (Multi Protocol Label Switched) global backbone. This means SLA-guaranteed high availability, typically in the order of 99.9 per cent, so you can count on your media arriving in the best quality, when it is needed.
It’s resilient and flexible.
Instead of all media coming into a single hub before being distributed as with a control centre, every source is potentially available to every destination over a fully resilient mesh-network. This topology eliminates the single point of failure that a hub creates and also provides for a great deal more flexibility which is simply not available with traditional point-to-point circuits. For instance, to incorporate a new source or destination, you simply add a local network tail.
It’s cost effective.
The MPLS implemented underneath the GMN is a full multicast-enabled network, making it particularly suitable for one-to-many media distribution. By using global networking ‘clouds’, plugging in to the world only costs you a local network tail.
It’s two-way.
Utilising MPLS multicast fully duplex connections wherever possible makes our networks highly suitable for joint-production partners, data recovery, confidence feeds, remote telemetry and other services associated with controlled media distribution, providing peace of mind.
It’s proven.
Babcock's programme distribution to our Global Network of transmitter sites has been hosted on the GMN infrastructure since September 2006, which was joined by our satellite ground station distribution during mid 2007. These new networks have proved to be extremely reliable, allowing us to offer our customers previously unattainable high levels of service availability.
Join the GMN and be part of the ultimate inter-broadcaster content delivery network. Files or streams, whatever your programme format, we can ensure it is delivered intact and on time.
